When hosting a Q&A session on Friday afternoon, The Athletic’s Carl Anka spoke out about a transfer rumour.
Earlier this week, German news outlet WESER-KURIER revealed that Southampton are keeping an eye on Werder Bremen forward Milot Rashica, while European champions Liverpool are also believed to be interested.
The Kosovo international has netted seven goals, while also recording three assists in the Bundesliga this season.
WESER-KURIER’s report states that Rashica has a €38m (£31.8m) release clause in his contract with the German side, which could make him an attractive option for wealthy Premier League clubs.
Anka has now revealed what he has heard about the rumour.
What did he say?
When asked about the links to Rashica during his Q&A session on Friday, Anka wrote: “I saw that. I have no idea where that came from.”
No fuel added to the fire
It is always interesting to hear such a credible source’s views on a reported transfer target, so Anka’s comments on Rashica are certainly worth reading even if he sheds barely any light on the situation.
It remains to be seen where the Kosovo attacker ends up, but The Athletic’s Southampton correspondent has done little to add any fuel to the fire regarding this rumour, therefore making it one which should probably take a backseat for now.
We outlined how Rashica would be a good signing for the Saints and also the perfect partner for Danny Ings, given his ability to play anywhere across the frontline – he would also lessen Southampton’s dependence on the ageing Shane Long.
From non-League to the Premier League: Where did these top-flight stars begin their careers?
For now though, Anka’s comments – which imply that he hasn’t heard anything credible about this rumour – means it is not one that should be taken as gospel.
