According to the Express & Star, Wolves are keen on adding AEK Athens striker Nelson Oliveira to their ranks, but a move for the familiar 28-year-old would only go to show just how desperate they are this month.
What’s the word?
It’s believed that the two clubs and the player, who is owned by Jorge Mendes, are in discussions over a potential deal.
Oliveira will be recognised by some supporters after featuring for the likes of Swansea City, Nottingham Forest and Norwich City in recent years.
The Portuguese striker has caught Wolves’ attention after scoring ten times in all competitions this season, whilst he has also provided six assists, including three in Europa League qualifying, via Transfermarkt.
Desperation
Oliveira was once dubbed Portugal’s Eric Cantona due to his similar style of play with his ability to keep hold of the ball, strength and technique amongst his more noted attributes.
However, his only foray into the Premier League returned a disappointing result after he managed to score just one goal in ten appearances, while his record in the Championship is hardly something to get fans excited about after averaging a goal in every 3.3 matches, per Transfermarkt.

He may well be in form this season, but the Greek Superleague is far from comparable to the top-flight of English football, and it only goes to show just how desperate the club have gotten this month.
Wolves need strength in depth badly after allowing backup striker Patrick Cutrone to return to his homeland after just six months in the Midlands.
Raul Jimenez is the only senior option left upfront.
Call yourself a Wolves expert? How much did each of these January signings cost?
They can do a lot better, especially after previous links to RB Salzburg forward Hwang Hee-Chan and Hull City hotshot Jarrod Bowen – it’s just a case of Fosun stumping up the cash for them, which they should be able to do considering the club made £199.5m in revenue last season.
A move for Oliveira ultimately seems short-sighted and scatter-gun, but that will always be the case when you are leaving business to the final ten days of the transfer window.
And in other news, another incoming could have the same impact as Pedro Neto this season…
