By the time they'd taken to the field to warm up, they'd dropped to seventh, their hopes of playing in next season's Champions League hanging by a thread after being hit with a 10-point penalty for financial irregularities and false accounting in relation to past transfer dealings.

Victory at Empoli would have significantly boosted their chances of finishing in the top four, but they proceeded to collapse, suffering a humiliating 4-1 defeat that was perhaps unsurprising in the circumstances.

Here in Italy, they're already calling it Juve's 'Black Monday'. But what follows now could be more akin to 'Black Friday' – a massive sale that could see a number of big names quit the cash-strapped and crisis-hit club this summer in pursuit of Champions League football elsewhere.

Pogba only returned back in Turin last summer, and Massimiliano Allegri has insisted that both he and Juve will wait for the injury-ravaged midfielder to return to full fitness. Make no mistake about it, though, if any club were brave (or stupid) enough to make an offer for the France international, it would be promptly accepted.

Juve are, as the put it, "prisoners of Pogba's lucrative contract", which is worth €8 million a year (including bonuses) and still has three years to run. The problem is, of course, that it seems highly unlikely that any team would be willing to take a risk on a 30-year-old that has been beset by injury issues dating back to his time at Manchester United, and managed just 161 minutes of game time this season. Pogba himself has also said that he wants to repay the club and its fans for standing by him during a trying campaign.

At the same time, he won't want to waste his final years playing for a team in transition. Remember, the World Cup winner has never lifted the Champions League, so a transfer is not beyond the realms of possibility if he can somehow prove he is over his incessant injury issues.

Szczesny upset Allegri last week by arguing that the amount of saves he had to make against Sevilla in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final reflected poorly on Juve's performance at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. The coach advised his goalkeeper to stay quiet and also rather pettily questioned the Pole's level of Italian.

Still, while Szczesny would obviously rather play for a team that gives him a little less to do, the main reason why he could be on his way this summer is his contractual situation. The shot-stopper is one of the highest earners at the club, pocketing €6.5m (£5.6m/$7m) per annum, and still has a year to run on his current deal.

Given the club's current economic position, it's hardly surprising that Juve are already eyeing up potential successors, including Marco Carnesecchi, who has impressed on loan at Cremonese from Atalanta, and Empoli's Guglielmo Vicario.

A summer sale would also enable the Old Lady to make some money on former Arsenal man Szczesny, who has repeatedly proven this season – particularly with his penalty-saving expertise – that he still has plenty to offer at the highest level.

Given Rabiot's impressive form for club and country this season, most notably at the World Cup in Qatar, and the fact that his contract expires this summer, holding on to the Frenchman was always going to be a tall order for Juventus.

So, any hope they had will be killed by a lack of Champions League football. Juve, essentially, would have little to offer a free agent who could make far more money in England, where the 28-year-old has long had plenty of admirers.

Manchester United have been linked numerous times and are said to be very keen on finally making a deal happen, but the latest reports suggest that they could face stiff competition from Saudi Arabia-backed Newcastle.

Unlike many of his Juve team-mates, Rabiot has played the best football of his career under Allegri, and the manager has defended him during some tough times in Turin, but he wants to continue playing Champions League football, meaning he is almost certain to move on.

Losing him for nothing will obviously be a blow for the Bianconeri, but his exit will at least remove one of the club's highest earners (€7m per annum) from the wage bill.

It's been a long road to recovery for Chiesa and, truth be told, the winger isn't yet back to anything like his best. After 10 months on the sidelines with a serious knee injury, the Italy international returned to action in November and looks a shadow of the player that illuminated Euro 2020.

However, he was Juve's most effective player against Empoli – which obviously isn't saying much – and there is a belief that the Italy international would flourish again under any coach other than Allegri. Indeed, there have been numerous reports in recent weeks that Chiesa has been left bitterly frustrated by the manager's defensive approach, as well as the fact that he is being constantly moved about the pitch – often during the same game.

Chiesa, then, will be an attractive option for any club looking for a world-class winger. His injury issues would, of course, be a cause for concern, but despite being around for ages, he is still only 25. With a clean bill of health, Chiesa could run riot at an attacking team, particularly in England.

While considering cashing in on Chiesa would have once been considered sacrilegious in Turin, it will be a very viable option if Juve can't count on Champions League money next season.
